KUNDALINI YOGA, THE YOGA OF AWARENESS
I found Kundalini Yoga and Mediation two years ago at an Art and Yoga Workshop with Hari Kirin Khalsa and Ajeet Kaur at Kripalu. From the first tune in and Kriya I encountered, I felt like I had finally found what I had been searching for. Something that challenged me physically, opened me emotionally and helped my brain slow down long enough to meditate. Kundalini has become a physical and spiritual practice where I am allowed to sit with how I am feeling and be empowered to change my state more effectively and efficiently. I enrolled in Level 1 Teacher Training soon after I found Kundalini with Hari Kaur Khalsa, one of the Legacy Teachers in NYC and have continually experienced beautiful growth in me.
Kundalini Yoga was brought to the west in the late 1960's by Yogi Bhajan who witnessed the hippie cultural revolution and observed two things: 1) As evidenced by their search for expanded consciousness, young people in America were longing to experience God 2) Aided by drugs and half-baked mysticism, they were going about it all wrong. Although teaching Kundalini outside of India was forbidden, Yogi Bhajan knew his Dharma was to make Kundalini accessible. After this realization, he began teaching Kundalini to the west proclaiming, "It is everyone's birthright to be healthy, happy, and holy, and the practice of Kundalini Yoga is the way to claim that birthright."
And Thank God for his courage, passion and love for the empowerment of all through inner awareness.
